“Siblings are the people we practice on, the people who teach us about fairness and cooperation and kindness and caring quite often the hard way.” — Pamela Dugdale

I am blessed to have four incredible people in my life. They are my three sisters and my baby brother. When you have as many siblings as I do, there is never a dull moment. Each and every one of us have different talents and personalities. I am extra lucky because each and everyone of my siblings have hearts of gold. It is a lot of pressure to be the oldest of five kids. So today, I dedicated these words to the four people I love most in the world:

  1. Be Yourself. Because each and every one of your are freaking amazing.
  2. “If your dreams do not scare you, they are not big enough”. Remember this quote and follow your dreams no matter what.
  3. Find someone that not only loves you but puts YOU first. You all are always taking care of others. You deserve to be treated like royalty.
  5. Don’t ever change. Any of you. You all have the best sense of humor and wander. If anyone tries to change anything about you, it’s time to let them go.
  6. Enjoy your money but make sure you always have a savings account set aside for emergencies (and spontaneous adventures).
  7. I am not perfect. So when I mess up, continue to correct me and I promise to continue to do the same.
  8. We are not always going to see eye-to-eye. But never forget: I love you all unconditionally. There is absolutely nothing you can say or do that I cannot forgive (yes, I did quote Jane the Virigin lol).
  9. Take care of yourselves. Seriously. Make sure you are taking your vitamins and excerising (I need to work on this myself).
  10. Finally, thank you for making me the amazing person I am today. All of my success in the past few years is because you all have kept me smiling and laughing.

When you get to your twenties, it’s not just your blood that keeps you grounded. Sometimes, your closest friends also become your sibling as well. To my incredible extended family, thank you for believing and standing by me all these years. All of my siblings bring out the absolute best in me. I am grateful to have family from the Philippines, Italy, Barbados, Honduras and even Ireland. Love you guys! Happy National Siblings Day! <3

Hola beautiful world! If there is one piece that every woman needs in her closet, it is a blazer. I understand that a  blazer can be an intimating piece. And if you are petite, finding a blazer that fits your body well can be a challenge. This textured black blazer takes style to a whole new level and will be sure to compliment your small frame.

In these photos, I am wearing a size 2 (petite). So far, the website does not have the blazer available online in petite. I would recommend stopping by your local Banana Republic boutique to see if they have the blazer in stock. If you do not want your trip to Banana Republic to be fruitless, it doesn’t hurt to call the store ahead of time to see if the jacket is in stock.

Because this blazer is texturized, it gives a great slimming look. The small ruffles on the blazer are what give this blazer an outstanding personality and are not overbearing. Keep in mind that this blazer is made completely out of polyester. When it is time to have the blazer washed, be sure to make sure you get it dry cleaned. A coat like this will get ruined if you try to throw it in the wash.

Hi everyone! If there is one thing you should know is that I love Disney. A lot. As such, I beyond excited to see Disney’s remake to The Jungle Book.  After seeing Disney’s re-make of Cinderella, it is clear to see that Disney is not going to fall short on this classic film. For any other dedicated fans out there, here is what we are most excited about:

The music.

Disney has promised that there will be a feature of “The Bare Necessities” and “I Wanna Be Like You” in this version. While the songs are not the sole premise of the film, it will be fun as a fan to see the songs incorporated into this re-make.

The actor that plays the role of Mowgli, Neel Sethi is sure to offer a stellar performance as an actor. This is his debut as an actor. What is even more impressive? The young actor is performing with nothing in front of him but a camera and a green screen. Critics agree that Sethi brings the character of Mowgli to life in a spectacular performance.

Shere Khan.

Get ready Disney fans! We are going to have a more detailed reason as to why Shere Khan hates man so much. In fact, it is hinted that there is a deeper reason as to why Shere Khan wants to get rid of Mowgli specifically. Plus, he looks as terrifying which is going to make for some great action and suspense.

Breath-taking CGI.

Critics continue to rave about the outstanding CGI in this film. This is probably due to the fact that the film look like it was indeed, filmed in the jungles of India. More so, all of the animals look incredibly real. The attention to details with each of the characters look absolutely amazing.

The Jungle Book was the last film that Walt Disney worked on before he passed. As such, I am looking forward to this revival. The film features an incredible all-star cast. The film is going to give us a new look at a beloved story. Are you excited to see the film?

The Jungle Book is in theaters April 15th.

Hi beautiful world! Our hair can be extremely difficult to manage. If you have curly hair, you know how real the struggle is. Some days, your hair looks great. Other days, one side of your hair is curlier than the other. Luckily, I have some ways that have helped me manage my curly hair.

Embrace the Curl.

I have had people tell me that they hate my curly hair in the past. True story. The fact of the matter is, whether you decide to curl your hair or not, no one’s opinions matter except for yours. That being said, do not spend countless hours burning off the ends of your hair if you feel like have your hair curly for once. Enjoy your curly hair, because it IS beautiful!

Condition, condition, condition.

Curly hair needs a little more maintenance than straight hair. It definitely needs more moisture. As such, it does not hurt to use leave-in conditioner to make sure your ends are moisturized. Just be sure to that you completely wash out your leave in conditioner when you are finished. Deep conditioning treatments that are not washed out properly can weight down your hair. This can contribute to un-even curling.

Turn down the heat.

Since you have naturally curly hair, put down your curly iron! Rather, use products that will help keep your curl in place without heat. I love Miss Jessie’s Soft Pillow curl hair product because it helps to promote bigger curls. I like to use it with damp hair. Be sure to scrunch your hair to help bounce out your curl. The product smells awesome and it helps moisturize your hair too! How are some ways YOU manage your curly hair? Feel free to let me know!

Selena Quintanilla Perez continues to be a icon and a role-model for millions of latinas. Twenty one years after her passing, Selena continues to be a role model and an inspiration. So what exactly is so inspiring about the beloved super start? Here is why:

She was humble.

Selena entered the Tejano music industry where only men were successful artists. She is referred to as the “Queen of Tejano” because of the fact that she was the first successful female tejano music star. Yet, despite her success she remained humble. The first house that she bought herself was actually near her old home were she grew up. She ended up marrying her first love Chris Perez who was a member of her band. And she was always grateful o her fans, making sure to take the time to sign autographs and take photos. While her fashion was extremely glamorous on stage, off stage she was the girl next door who would sport fun crop tops and jeans when she would go out and about.  It just goes to show that you can remain humble in one of the most rigorous industries.

She had a passion for fashion.

Speaking of fashion, Selena was (and continues to be) a trend setter. She was not a stranger to fashion. Using Paula Abdul and Madonna, Selena incorporated high end fashion while mixing it with her Mexican roots. It was fun to see all of the outfits she would wear on stage. I enjoy that fact that she would design all of her stage outfits and eventually went on to open her own boutique. In regards to fashion, she was certainly before her time. Selena used high waisted pants during performances, maxi skirts, crop tops and custom designed dresses. And of course, her famous look of the bustier.

She was a hard worker.

Latino families know a thing or two about hard work. For many Latino families, life is very tough financially in the United States (or any immigrant fo that matter). Selena and her family knew that their success was not going to be an immediate thing. The Quintanillas worked hard to have Selena’s music and voice heard. That is what is so inspiring about Selena. Despite the odds, the singer worked hard to make sure that her dreams would become reality.

She was real.

She said what was on her mind when she had interviews. She loved to eat. She was not only an amazing performer, but she was a beloved friends, sister, and wife. While Tejano music is what sparked her career, she did not know Spanish has her primary language. English was her primary language. She did not try to hide the fact that she was not perfect at Spanish. Nonetheless, her fans loved her. In Chris Perez’ book “To Selena with Love” he shares that he and Selena were never experts in Spanish. Yet, the two did spend a lot of time practicing, to a point that Selena grew to know Spanish so well she had to slow down for her husband to understand her. She was truly a woman who wore her heart on her sleeve.

She embraced two wonderful worlds.

There are a lot of negative things that are said about Americans. And there are a lot of negative things that are said about Hispanics (boooooo). As a woman who is a proud American who shares Hispanic roots, I know there are a lot of positive things about being American and Hispanic. For one, Latinos love food. We love our families so much that many times, latinos have two or three sets of parents because we create bonds with our friends that are inseparable. Selena embraced her Mexican roots but ways also like any other American girl. She loved to eat pizza, loved trying new things, and followed the American dream. To some, the American dream is a two story home with a white picket fence. Latinos know that the American dream is a life of happiness in which you can enjoy your earthly treasures with the people that mean the most to you.

Selena’s Influence.

Jennifer Lopez actually got her big break as an actor when she plays the role of Selena when the film was produced in her honor in 1997. There are countless memes about JLO stating that she would not be famous of Selena was still alive. Frankly, I disagree and I feel that this is a negative (and terrible) thing to say. JLO continues to one of the most talented women not just in the music industry but as an actor and fashion designer. They are both extremely influential women in the Hispanic community. In fact, Selena Gomez’s parents admired Selena so much that they named their daughter Selena in 1992. I think that it’s safe to say that Selena Gomez lives up to her name by staying true to herself with body image and by being a positive role model to millions of girls around the world.

Selena Lives.

On this day, her family and fans remember Selena’s smile and kind spirit. I was four years old when she passed. But I will never forget that day when I saw her funeral service on TV (it’s one of the few childhood memories that has stayed with me). My parents were sobbing, as though they lost her daughter. I most definitely want to be like Selena, twenty one years after her death. I do not want fame, but rather, I want to leave a lasting legacy. A legacy that inspires women to follow and pursue their dreams, to be kind, and always stay true to who we are as person.

Hello beautiful ones! Ruffles can be very intimidating. Thankfully, this is a trend that a women of all shapes and sizes can rock. For petite women, this Banana Republic dress. Be sure to stop by your local boutique to get a petite sized dress.

The floral print of this dress is gorgeous. And while I am usually afraid of ruffles, this dress compliments my petite body well. I love how the dress adds ruffles to the sleeves and shoulder of the dress. These little details give the dress a lot of personality.

The dress is more than just beautiful. It is super comfortable. While the dress does sport a lot of ruffles, the dress does not feel heavy. The dress pairs great with a cardigan or a blazer. This ruffle dress is certainly a great option to use at work or on a date night.
