Living and Learning: Farewell 2016

Each and every year offers 365 days of opportunities to grow. 2016 has certainly kept me on my toes. Nonetheless, this year has been a whirl wind of moments (both good and bad). Here is what 2016 has taught me:

Pursue what you love.

One of the hardest challenges I have been facing in the past few years is pursuing my favorite hobbies and passions. Upon entering college, I chose to give up the possibility of a career in music. In doing so, I was miserable while pursing a career in business. I felt like a major part of my life was taken away and that there was nothing I could do to feel whole again. I was terribly wrong. If you love something, the only thing that will stop you from achieving your dreams is you. While I am not pursuing a career in business, I chose to start this fashion blog after I finished college. It’s not easy to run a blog, but now I have something that allows me to create content. I look forward to writing up my blog posts and  setting up photoshoots. My blog is not about vanity. It is about a small town girl that loves fashion (who is petite) and wants to show other girls who may have not come from a well-off middle class family that you can pursue your dreams. My journey to success is far from over. But then again, great time take time.

Cherish your family and friends.

It is so easy to take your family and friends for granted. I should know, because I do this far too often. I am the first to admit that I am terrible at texting people back (or keeping in contact in general). Because of my rigorous work schedule and the time I put into my blog, it has been difficult to stay in touch with my family and friends. But not impossible. Anytime I catch myself spending too much time scrolling through Facebook or Instagram, I make an effort to reach out to my friends or family. We all have time to reach out to our loved ones. Let’s take the time in 2017 to be a good friend/sister/cousin/girlfriend to the people that mean most to us.

It’s ok to mourn the loss of a loved one.

Everyone mourns the loss of a loved one differently. During times of grief, it is important to put judgement aside and be a shoulder to cry on for anyone who is in grief. This year, I lost a father figure who meant the world to me. It seemed like he left at the absolute worst time because I felt like I needed him more than even this year. There were so many moment this year that I felt defeated. I miss him so much and honestly, I spent a lot of time crying. I now have accepted that he is gone and make an every effort to make him proud into 2017. We all are going to have days where we don’t feel like we are enough for our friends, family, bosses, etc. The fact of the matter is that we all need to give ourselves credit-we are all doing great! So what if your plan for your life did not turn out exactly how you wanted? Improvise and adjust your plan as needed. Life is not always going to go the way you want it to. It’s up to you to make the most of all situations-good or bad.

Stay humble and kind.

I am not going to discuss politics. I did, however, see a lot of nastiness and cruelty all over my social media that frankly broke my heart. Look, we are not going to see eye-to-eye with everyone we encounter. Still, just because we have the freedom of speech in America that does not mean you have to go out of your way to be nasty. We have one too many people in this world who are selfish, greedy, and rude. Why be like everyone else when you can stand out (on the inside and out). Plus let’s face it, we gain nothing from spending time angry and upset all the time.

I hope you all have a fantastic New Year! To all my followers, friends, and family who have supported my blog this year, thank you from the bottom of my heart. This blogging thing sure is a lot of work, but I am enjoying every minute of it!

Velvet dress + bodysuit & bold red lips

It’s almost time to say goodbye to 2016. As we ring in a new year, I hope you all have the chance to spend wind down from one heck of a year. Working full time and blogging is a lot of work. Nonetheless, I so grateful to have had the chance to start a blog this year (and grateful to all of you for taking the time to read my posts). I hope you all take a leap of faith and pursue any and all of the crazy dreams you want to chase. The pursuit is tough but well worth it! <3

Anyway, back to what I have featured in this week’s look. I for one, am loving that you can find just about any type of dress, shoes, scarf and even purses that are made of velvet. Needless to say, I could not resist this lovely lace trip slipdress by Topshop. The dress features spaghetti straps that are made with a light, stretchy strap. The plunging neckline of the dress is so flirty but not too revealing. I am wearing this dress in size 6 as there sizing tends to run on the smaller side (usually, I go for a size 4 in dresses).

To bring out the lace detailing of this dress, I chose to pair this piece with a metallic bodysuit that I am wearing in a size M. There is nothing worse that putting on a bodysuit that is too small, am I right? 😉 Slip on some stocking and your favorite ankle boots for a look that is sure to turn heads on New Years or any major event you will be attending. Don’t forget your sassy bold red lip to finish your look. 😉 I am wearing LORAC’s liquid lipstick in in Berry Red.

Have you had a chance to dive into any velvet pieces? What do you think of the trend? Feel free to leave me a comment below. And have an amazing 2017 loves! <3

Boxy sweater + Jeans for casual holiday look

Nothing like a cozy sweater to keep you warm this holiday season! I am in love with this boxy scoopneck sweater by Lauren Conrad. This piece offers small (but pretty) embellished details. I am wearing this sweater in the color old rose. There is also four other color options in case you do not want to wear pink.I personally love that this piece is loose. It is nice to break away from clothes that are fitted every once in a while. I am wearing it in XS.

The holidays are all about spending time withour loved ones and enjoy great dishes. As such, this is a top that will allow you to enjoy holiday treats while hiding a full belly. Pair this sweater with a pair of high waisted jeans and a pair of booties for an effortlessly chic and casual look. This look is so easy to put together and looks great for all occasions even after the holiday season is over.

Are you ready for the holidays this weekend? Do you prefer to dress casually or dress up during the hoildays? Feel free to leave me a comment below.

MAC Selena Returns!

Hola familia! You read right. MAC has announced that MAC Selena will be relaunching! Fans can make purchases online starting 12/28 and in store in 12/29. There was a lot of frustration for fans who were not able to get their hands on this collections. Thankfully, MAC is limiting customers to be able to purchase on 2 of any particular item. Hopefully this will help eliminate Ebay and Amazon trolls. MAC specified that all items will be available except for the Liquid Eye Liner in Boot Black (bummer).

I was able to get my hands on this collection when it was released earlier in the fall and it is incredible. I do recommend that  you get MAC’s eyeshadow primer to get the most of the eyeshadows from this collection. You can read more details about each piece here. If you are serious about getting your hands on this collection in store, be sure to call your local MAC, Macy’s, Belk, Bloomingdale’s, Dillard’s, Hudson’s Bay Company, Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue to get specifics are to when the collection is available. I had a wonderful experience with my local Macy’s as to when the collection was in.

Have questions about the collection? Any comments? Let me know!

Showing Shoulder – Off the Shoulder top

Top: Kohls in XS | Skirt (OLD) ; Similar here

Top: Kohls || Boots: Bloomingdales ; also available here || Purse: Target

Off the shoulder tops and dresses have been my go to trend this year. This trend looks great on women of all shapes and sizes. While I may have a petite frame, I have been able to find off the shoulder tops and dresses great for all occasions. I truly hope this is a trend that continues to grace stores in 2017.

The rock and republic off the shoulder top featured in this post is so much fun to wear! It’s sold out but you can buy a similar top here and here. The bold lace front looks great with a skirt (as shown) or casually with a pair of your favorite jeans. This top fits so well and is loose in all the right places. Needless to say, if you decide to indulge this holiday season, you can hide a full belly. 😉

All winter long, I have been looking for a pair of knee high boots that compliment my small frame. These black suede boots by Kendall and Kylie are so comfortable! I can honestly say that I have been able to walk in these boots for hours and not be in any pain. My foot is wide, so 6.5 worked well. I did also try these boots in a size 7 with inserts from Aldo.

Tis the season to add sparkle to your look. I decided to add a gold cross body bag to for this look. The bag is also sold out but you can buy a similar one here. If you are not someone who likes gold, this bag also comes in silver. Have you indulged in off the shoulder tops? Feel free to leave me a comment below.

Sequins and Velvet – Holiday Party Outfit

Happy holidays! I love this time of year because there is never a shortage of glitz and glamour. I love to wear dresses this time of year but let’s face it – baby, it’s cold outside! 😉 As such, it was hard to resist getting a pair of sequin leggings. I am definitely going to be using these bad boys for holiday parties and New Years Eve festivities.

I chose to pair my sequin leggings with an embellished top. A velvet blazer adds a chic, festive look that you can use all year long.  Add your favorite statement earrings and ankle boots to complete your look and you will be on your way. What are your favorite pieces that you are going to be using this holiday season? Feel free to leave me a comment below!

Black Holiday dress + gold accents & bold red lip

Welcome December! The countdown to Christmas has officially begun. There is nothing I love more than adding sparkle to my look during the holidays. The black sparkle dress I am wearing is by Calvin Klein (that comes in petites and plus sizing) that I got at Macy’s. The dress has sparkle to it without the worry of having glitter transferred off.

Black is chic color. That is why I love to pair black with gold accents. The clutch featured in these images is by INC (this brand is exclusive to Macy’s). It is the perfect size to take to a holiday party as it has enough room to carry your phone and keys.

When comes to dressing up for the holidays, I am a firm believer of makeup that stands out. You truly can never go wrong with a bold red lip color (mine is Beso by Stila). I used liquid eyeliner to draw out my dramatic eyeliner (mine is by LORAC which is available at Kohls and Ulta. I also love a liner by Kat Von D that is available at Sephora).
