Why scarfs and ponchos are must have accessories for fall

It’s never easy to say goodbye to summer. Nonetheless, we have to make the most of season changes right? One thing I do love about fall is all the layers that get added to our fall outfits. In fact, I don’t know what I would do without my scarfs and ponchos. So today I am going to explain why scarfs and ponchos are must have accessories for fall and why you need to make sure these amazing accessories are a part of your wardrobe.

They add extra texture to your look

Animal prints are always great to wear in the fall. In fact, I have a guide as to how rock animal prints here. You see how my leopard print scarf adds personality to my look? Not only is this scarf charming but it’s also super warm.

They are easy to layer with

I love that ponchos and scarfs are easy to add to almost any outfit. Take this look for example. A simple turtleneck and business pants look even more festive with my windowpane cape scarf. It can be worn as a poncho (as seen in these photos) or as a scarf. timeless-optimist-fashion-blog-Why-scarfs-and-ponchos-are-must-have-accessories-for-fall-jcrew-scarftimeless-optimist-fashion-blog-jcrew-cape-scarf-in-windowpane-Why-scarfs-and-ponchos-are-must-have-accessories-for-fall

They offer a great pop of color

I love adding a pop of color with a multi-colored plaid blanket scarf like this one. Having a blanket scarf really ties this look together. Adding pops of red or even pink are easy with the right kind of scarf to accessorize with,

Thanksgiving dessert idea: Hershey kiss acorns

Hi loves! Thanksgiving will be here before we know it. During the holidays, I love to make simple and easy sweets treats to give to my friends and family. As such, I am delighted to be collaborating with Hershey to share with your my easy Thanksgiving dessert idea: Hershey kiss acorns! It’s super easy to make and no baking is required!

Here is what you are going to need:

A bag of Hershey kisses

A bag of chocolate morsels

a bag of mini Nutter butter cookies

Directions:

  1. Bring a medium size pot to boil.
  2. While you are waiting for your water to boil, un-wrap your Hershey’s kisses and have your mini Nutter butters out of their container.
  3. Once your water is boiling, add a half a cup of morsels to a small pot over the medium pot to melt your chocolate.
  4. Take a knife, add some of your melted chocolate to a Hershey’s kiss to have secure on a mini Nutter butter. One your mini Nutter butters have a kiss on them,  press them down for about five seconds. Then proceed to your morsels.
  5. Add some melted chocolate and stick the morsel to the end of the cookie.

Then, viola! Your acorns are ready to delight your guests. Chill in your refrigerator if you are not serving them right away.

Thank you Hershey’s for sponsoring this post! It was truly a delight to collaborate with a brand a trust and use on a day-to-day- basis. All opinions are my own.

How to rock fall’s hottest print: leopard print

I can’t enough of animal prints recently. Perhaps it’s the little lioness in me (we all have one after all 😉🦁🐯). Fall is a great time to break out your favorite animal print pieces to add some edge to your fall wardrobe (faux of course). Here are some ways you can style animal prints:

Play it safe with neutrals

An easy way to style animal prints is to wear solid colors like white and black. Bodysuits and cozy sweaters are great to pair with an animal print skirt. Add some heels for height and some extra femininity. To add some elegance, you can add black tights to pull your look together.

For my first look, I wanted to show you an effortless, casual look. I decided my Point Sur alpaca crewneck sweater with jeans and TOMS for a simple look that you can wear out or for a causal work day. This sweater is sooooo cozy since it’s made of alpaca and merino wool.

The best thing about sweaters? They are easy to layer with. I love pairing an over-sized sweater (this one I bought in a size L) with a collar top. With a comfortable pair of jeans and study boots, this look was perfect for apple picking. You can see my favorite places to pick apples in New Jersey here.

Keep in mind that this sweater runs very large – I had to return my sweater for a size XXS when I am generally wear a size S. I love how easily this sweater pairs great with my animal print skirt and pointed black suede heels.

Best Halloween Costume Idea: Elliot and Gertie from E.T.

timeless-optimist-fashion-blog-halloween-costume-idea-elliot-and-gertie-from-e.t.-2

Not to brag or anything but my boyfriend and I are pretty awesome at Halloween! My most popular pin on Pinterest continues to be our costume idea of Mary Poppins and Bert that you can see here. This year, we wanted to do costumes that tackled two important issues: 1. Costumes that were creative and 2. Costumes that are not going to cost a fortune.

I am a big advocate of DIY styled costumes. There is so much joy to be had when you take pieces from your wardrobe and turn them into the costume from one of your favorite movies or stories. When we were deciding on Halloween costumes, our first place to look was none other than Pinterest. After hours of scrolling, we finally came across the costume we wanted to re-create: Elliot and Gertie from E.T.

Below is where we got our inspiration from. After that, it was time to get to work on our costumes.

unnamed

Gerty

My costume was super easy to put together. I started with a plain striped shirt. I recommend using a bodysuit for this costume. I didn’t have one and it was a pain trying to tuck in a regular shirt. I also did not have overalls but was able to find a pair under $50 that you can get here. I am usually a size 4 in dresses. I purchased the overalls in a size 3 and they were a bit sung. Go up a size for these overalls! Afterward, I got some string to tie around my hair as pigtails. I am wearing my pink TOMS as I usually don’t wear sneakers (but recognize that I need to get myself a pair). The pot and flowers (that I found on sale) I purchased at Michaels.

Patrick’s costume was also effortless to put together. He already owned a red hoodie sweater that he got from H&M (that you can also purchase here). Along with his favorite pair of jeans and his converse shoes, his costume was all set! Not only was this costume easy to put tighter but it also kept him warm while we joined his little sister for Trick-or-treating.

E.T.

In our inspiration photo, the couple used an E.T. plush toy that you can purchase here. My boyfriend decided to take our costume up a notch and build an E.T. out of scratch. That’s right – he build E.T. The best part? E.T. was on a minute loop so he would say things like “E.T. phone home” or “Home?”.
