We all have that one color that instantly give us confidence. Some prefer neutral colors like gray or black. For me, red has always been my go-to color whenever I have needed a confidence post. I have always felt that red is a color that looks great on everyone! Every girl needs a little red dress in her life and here is why:

It’s timeless. Cliche I know but hear me out. Red is a color that stands out in any generation. Plus, if you are looking to get noticed, this is a color that will always help you stand out.

Confidence. I mentioned before that red is my go-to color for confidence and it has never failed me. Red is a color of demands attention. It’s the perfect color to wear when you are giving a presentation at work or if you need to do a speech at your next public speaking event. Red will draw the attention of your audience which will allow you to excel as a speaker or presenter with ease.

Excitement. Adding pops of red to your look adds drama and excitement to it. A little red dress is the perfect piece to spice up your wardrobe.

Versatility. A red dress can always be accessories with a blazer for work then with some great heels and sparkly jewelry on your next date night. Has anyone seen Once Upon A Time? Emma’s red dress in first episode is ICONIC!

I hope these tips have convinced you to get a little red dress of your own. Ladies, we all deserve to stand out now and then. Take the time to boost your confidence with a little red dress. I think this color will be a lot of fun for you to try and I hope it gives you confidence the way it does for me.

Aris Couture Boutique: Blush dress for Valentine’s Day

Hi loves! If there is one piece of advice that I get from bloggers all across our nation is the importance of working with local stores owners. Collaborating with local store owners is a great way to build lasting relationships with your community as well as provide much needed exposure for the business owner. Today, I am so thrilled to introduce Aris Couture Boutique run by the lovely and talented Jess in Montclair, NJ. She started this boutique from scratch and since then has build a lasting relationship with each one of her customers.

What is the selling point of this boutique? The price point! Jess’ clothes do not cost a fortune and also do not compromise on quality. The pieces that she has in her stores range from classic to boho-chic. Needless to say, this blush dress caught my eye instantly when I saw it.

This blush dress has a the most elegant detailing (which is why it is named as the Tea & Crumpets dress). If you can believe it, I was actually really bloated with I took these images! Talk about impressive right? That is how flattering this dress is! I am wearing the dress in a size S. Since we are still in the middle of winter, I paired the dress with some black stockings, black boots and a rose gold/black clutch that I got on clearance at Express.

If you want this dress for yourself, visit Jess in Montclair at her boutique or she can ship the dress directly to you! I cannot wait to show you all more darling pieces that you can rock on Valentine’s Day without breaking the bank.

My eternal thanks to Jess from Aris Couture Boutique for sponsoring this post. I am so grateful and honored to be partnering with you!

Negril, Jamaica // Places to go + travel essentials

I still can’t believe that it has been two weeks since I have returned from Jamaica with my family. Jamaica has become like a second home to me. For the past three years, I have had a chance to meet some kind and humble locals, see beautiful sunsets and enjoy some amazing food. Today I want to share with you some of the best things to do in Negril and what restaurants are worth venturing out to.

Top: Target // Belt: Target // Shorts: Express // Lipstick: Urban Decay // Sandals: LC Lauren Conrad

Best Restaurants

Fireman’s Pit – He is known on the island for preparing the best lobster. I don’t eat lobster but my family cannot get enough of it!

Rockhouse – Infamous for their amazing coconut chicken and shrimp. I get the chicken since I don’t eat shrimp. It has the best vibe!

Rick’s Cafe – A must for any dare-devil. The restaurant sits on a cliff with fearless swimming jump from. I have not mustered the courage to jump the high peak yet.. 😬

Pushcart – It has the best atmosphere! They have the best fried chicken that is paired with rice and peas (beans but Jamaicans referred to them as peas hehe).

Best Foods/Drinks to get in Jamaica

Jamaican Patties – They are generally filled with veggies or beef. They are a must have!

Jerk Chicken – If you love spicy food, you are going to love jerk sauce. It’s spicy, smokey and sweet!

Dirty Banana – For anyone who loves sweet drinks. This drink made with rum, banana puree, Kahlua and ice. So sweet and refreshing!

Best Accommodations

Idle Awhile – Pricey but great for anyone who wants a luxury experience. A stay at Idle Awhile can also include a personal chef, maid and butler.

Rasta Pasta – Think of pesto but Jamaican style! It’s pasta in oil and local veggies. The vegetables are a little bitter. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys eating kale.

Beaches Resort – The best place to enjoy an all inclusive resort

The Cliffs – This is a splurge resort that celebrities go to all the time! The price range is really high but offers outstanding service and privacy (it only holds up to 50 people from what I have heard).

Travel essentials for Jamaica

Bug Spray – If you get eaten up alive like I do, don’t forget to pack bug spray.

Camera – My go-to camera for travel is my new Sony A7 iii. It’s small and compact. Since it is mirrorless, it’s also perfect when you are coming from AC to outside. If you want a small DSL camera, I recommend the Nikon D3200. It’s still one of the main cameras I use.

Bathing suits – One mistake I made a few years ago is that I did not bring enough bathing suits. Bring tons of them because doing laundry in Jamaica when to you are on vacation is often not an option.

Cover-up – Since you are going to be living in your swim suits most of the time, pack plenty of coverups! One of my favorite cover-ups I reviewed a few weeks ago is here.

Sunscreen – Rhetorical but worth mentioning!

Shoes – I only pack one pair of sandals and one pair of heels. This saves me room in my suit case. I forgot to pack sneakers this year. If you are a running, don’t forget to pack them so you can get your morning runs on the beach.

Women’s March 2018: my experience and why it matters

What a time to be a woman! I attended this year’s Women’s March in Morristown, NJ and it was empowering. I am a feminist because I believe that women can do anything and everything they set their mind to. More so, I believe that it is about time that we have gender equality. The stigma of gender stereotypes needs to come to an end. I have always been a feminist and here is why:

I grew up in an old-fashioned, traditional home. I was discouraged and bullied against pursing my college career because it was “a waste of my time” and because “a woman’s place is not in business”. I had enough sense to not listen and continue to fight for my education. Even if it meant paying for school completely on my own and working like a dog, I was going to pave a better life for myself.

Needless to say, attending the women’s march was a huge milestone for me. It reminded me of the strength I have exhibited over the years. Ladies, you don’t have to come from a well off family to make a difference in your life. YOU can have anything you set your mind to as long as you have the courage to work towards making your dreams a reality. To me, success is happiness. Knowledge is power. And education is the single most important asset that we as women need to protect. Continue to stand for what is right. I will and will stand by anyone who does as well. Love you all!

How to wear white in the winter effortlessly

Hi beautiful world! When it comes to fashion, I hate to be conventional. You can catch me wearing white all throughout winter and this is a look that looks great on everyone! Wearing white is all about balance. Mix different textures and add white accessories like hats and gloves for the perfect snow bunny look! I had white accessories in a post here that I added to my look that also had pops of pink!

I went with a minimalist approach with my look. A simple, cozy white sweater pairs well with a pair of faux leather leather leggings. I have been living in block suede booties because they are comfy and look great with almost any outfit! Add a flirty headband for a flirty, feminine then you look is complete.

I hope you are all having an amazing week!

Thank you Belkin Images for these amazing photos! I appreciate you and your continuous support xx.

Negril, Jamaica // J.Crew off the shoulder beach dress

Boy, am I one grateful little lady. I just got back from my trip to Jamaica. It was absolutely magical and I am not going to lie: I was not ready to come back home. Being able to escape with the cold with my boyfriend and his family was an absolute blast!

We spent most of the trip by the beach but we did get a chance to go to check out some amazing restaurants and get some amazing food! Fireman’s Pit at the Broadway is always a hit. I am allergic to seafood but the rest of my family loves the lobster that is served with rice and peas (beans but Jamaicans refer to them as peas) and garlic toast. I ordered Fireman’s jerk chicken and it was wonderful (if you like spicy food, you are going to love jerk sauce on chicken).

A dress that I wore on repeat is this daring off the shoulder beach dress from J.Crew. It was the perfect piece to have on vacation because I could slip it on over my bathing suit and still look dressed up. I used a floral scarf as a head piece to make my look a little more tropical. I am wearing this dress in an XS which made me nervous when I took it out of the package. It looked super small and I was worried it was not going to fit. Sure enough, sizing down was a good idea. It ended up fitting really well and was not constricting.

Happiness, a beret, and a promise

Have you ever found yourself at a cross roads wondering if you are where you are supposed to be in life? Being in my twenties, I find myself questioning where I am in life and my abilities. Last year, I have been spending a lot of time growing as a blogger. I wanted to find ways to make my blog a side hustle and perhaps even monetize here on my blog.

Needless to say, I became consumed with growing here on my blog that I did not take the time for truly enjoy the holidays when it arrived. My first and most important priority has always been my family and dearest friends. I love this blog. I love everything that I have created and all the accomplishments I have achieved. But I have understood, now more than ever, the importance of balance.

I have not been shy admitting that I have battled with depressed and anxiety in the past. While I am positive in everything I do, pretending that I have a life that is always perfect is a lie. And the last thing I want to do is lie about who I am as a person. Depression is not a fight. It’s a battle – one that I face every day. And thankfully, I know I am not alone.

So when I realized that I basically let my favorite holiday go by so quickly, my depression  started to win a battle or two. I felt so un-fullfied and disappointed in myself that I let one part of my life overshadow the other. But this year, this are going to be different. This year, I am going to be making some changes.

I have decided first and foremost to make my happiness my top priority. This is something I started last year and I encourage you to do the same. Last year, I made a choice to put my happiness first by stepping away from people who are unsupportive of me. That is one of the secrets to staying positive. Have you ever heard the phrase your tribe attracts your vibe? Guess what: this phrase is true. Who you surround yourself with in the next 5 years will determine the type of person you will become. We are social creatures and as such, are influenced by the people who choose to spend our time with. Choose wisely.

Lately, I have been wearing beret a lot. And I have come to realize it is because I have a travel bug that needs to see the world (perhaps France..?). Growing up in a poorer middle class, I have only had the chance to travel a few times. Now that I am older and am establishing my career, I hope this year is filled with new adventures. Traveling offers humility and a sense of gratitude. I do hope this year is a year when I get to meet new people as well as see new places. Anytime I do get the chance to travel, I feel fulfilled in a way that nothing else can.

Lastly, I have two promises. A promise to myself and a promise to all of you. Last year, I did not spend my time wisely. If someone asked me to do a blog post for free brand awareness without any pay, I did it. I felt that because my follower account was low (and that I needed some brand awareness myself) I would take deals with brands that would cost me hundreds in time and effort. Not anymore. I recognize my worth as a blogger as well as the value of what I can put on to the table for brands. That is why I have decided that I will ONLY work with brands that I truly trust or believe in. I love that you all come to me in confidence and I do not want that to change. There are so many things in this industry that are fake. The last thing I want to do is be fake with any of you. My promise to you: to stay authentic.

My promise to myself is to work on creating balance in my life. Psalm 46:10 is a very that I carry with me on a day to day basis. The first line of it is be still. A great trait that I have is that I love to hustle. I like to stay productive as often as I can. There is nothing wrong with being a go-getter. But our minds and bodies do need to take a break from work and our endeavors every now and then. I have a hard time being still but I recognize for my own mental health, I need to be better at it. My mission this year is to better my best version of myself. I hope that this year you also chose to do the same.

Thank you all for your continuous support and love. Most importantly, thank you for allowing me to voice my honesty with you all.

Thank you Katie Vee Photography for this amazing photographs!
